Dear Comal ISD Families and Staff,
In the days following the tragedy at Hill Country College Preparatory High School, our community has made one thing clear: you care deeply about the safety of our students and staff, and you want to be part of making our schools stronger. I have heard that in your emails, your phone calls, and your conversations – and I am grateful for it.
Today, I would like to share that Comal ISD is forming a Safety & Security Task Force – a community-driven effort to take a thorough, honest look at how we keep our students and staff safe, and to chart a clear path forward.
WHAT IS THE TASK FORCE?
The Comal ISD Safety & Security Task Force will bring together parents, community members who live in our district, staff, and partners to conduct a comprehensive review of safety and security practices across our district. This group will work alongside district leadership, law enforcement, and subject matter experts. Ultimately, they will identify strengths and gaps and make recommendations to our state-mandated Safety and Security Committee (TEC Sec. 37.109) that will guide our work for years to come.
This is a commitment to real, community-informed change.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
We are looking for individuals who . . .
- Are passionate about student and staff safety;
- Are willing to engage seriously and respectfully with complex issues;
- Represent the diverse voices and perspectives of our community; and
- Will commit the time and energy this work requires.
We welcome applications from parents, guardians, community members and partners who live within our district boundaries, and Comal ISD staff members. We are intentionally casting a wide net, because the strongest solutions come from the most diverse perspectives.
HOW TO APPLY
Applications are open now. The process is straightforward, and we encourage anyone who feels called to serve to apply. A selection committee will review all applications and notify applicants of their status the week of May 25.
Apply online before Friday, May 8, 2026.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Once the task force is formed, we will share the names of members, the scope of the work, and a timeline for recommendations. We are committed to keeping our entire community informed as this process unfolds.
Thank you for your trust, your patience, and your willingness to roll up your sleeves alongside us. Our children deserve our best effort, and that is exactly what this task force is designed to deliver.
